This is a set of 4 replacements for the missing and broken roof rack buttons on the 1984-2001 Jeep XJ Cherokee. Roof rack, Ski rack, Roof Rails, whatever they may be called this will help get them operational again! The original buttons are brittle and almost always broken. If the original button is missing, be sure all the inner pieces are present. These inner pieces needed for operation are a spring, pin under the spring, and a metal bar sticking out towards the side of the Jeep. This kit will only replace the buttons and not fix the rail if the inner parts are bad or missing. If you do not have the inner metal pieces, they will need to be sourced from a junkyard or parts Jeep.
INSTALLATION:
- Remove the original button if its present using a flat blade screwdriver or pick. Pry the bottom out first.
- Inspect the inside, be sure the metal bar is present as well as the pin and spring. They should move up and down freely.
- If any of the inner metal pieces are missing or broken, they will need to be sourced from a junkyard or someone selling used parts.
- Use the flat blade screwdriver to lift the pin and slide the rail over so the pin is held up and not in a locking hole.
- Hold the metal bar up with a screwdriver (reference product photos) and slide the bottom of the new button in about halfway.
- Pull the screwdriver out and be sure the bar is being held up by the new button.
- Slide the top of the button under and in first, then push the bottom in, it should go in with little to medium force.
- Once the button is in, it may need some adjustment with a flat blade screwdriver to get it centered and moving freely.
- Slide the rail back over the locking pin hole and be sure the button is operating correctly.
- It may take a few tries to get it right as the original design of this release mechanism isn’t great, just be careful and don’t force it. Also be very careful with the retaining nubs on the top and bottom of the button, they are small and can be broken if care is not taken.
- If issues arise with installation, send a message with images for reference and we will get back to you as soon as possible to help solve the issue.

– This is a 3D printed part, this means not all parts will appear or fit exactly the same. If you have an issue with your part, please contact me and we can work out the issue together.
– Shipping damage must be reported within 3 days of receiving the item. After this time a return/refund will not be accepted nor will a replacement part be sent out due to shipping damage.
